The House votes on removing Confederate statutes from the Capitol
Guess how our local congressman, David McKinley (who refers to the Civil War as the War of Northern Aggression), voted?
From the Associated Press:
The House has approved a bill that would remove Confederate statues from the Capitol as well as a bust of Roger Taney, the U.S. chief justice known for an infamous pro-slavery decision. The legislation now moves to the Democratic-controlled Senate. https://t.co/ayVdrpCLUf

Government handouts: good for me, bad for thee
A look at how two local critics of federal pandemic relief aid for the unemployed fared under the Paycheck Protection Program
Ogden Newspapers
From a Wheeling Intelligencer editorial on May 7, 2021:
Bottom line: It’s time for Americans to get back to work. It’s high time for Congress to end the supplemental unemployment benefits.”
Translation: now that we’ve gotten our PPP money, it’s time to end government handouts!

Congressman McKinley: Since you refuse to do town halls, you ought to know that there was someone in Moundsville last night speaking at a town hall impersonating you!
More hypocrisy from our local representative

Among those representatives who refused to meet with constituents in an open public setting was our WV District I representative, David . . .

A bit surprising: Last night, our local congressman David McKinley was one of just 35 Republicans to vote for the creation of a commission to study the January 6 insurrection
Not surprising: There was no mention of this in today’s Ogden papers
Since the vote was taken last night (too late for the Intelligencer), I waited for the afternoon Wheeling News-Register to see if Ogden would cover our local congressman’s affirmative vote on the creation of a commission to closely examine what happened on January 6. McKinley was one of 35 Republicans to vote for the commission. (WV’s other . . .

The Trump Party removes Representative Cheney from party leadership
Our local representative, David McKinley, appears to have voted “yes”
Earlier today, House Republicans voted to remove Representative Liz Cheney from her leadership position in the Party. The vote was taken behind closed doors with no reporters present. It was also done by voice vote – there is no official record.

Earmarks: we were against them before we were in favor of them
Here is what David McKinley, our local congressional representative, pledged back in 2010 when he first ran for Congress:
No More Earmarks
David refused to insert earmarks into legislation as a member of the West Virginia House of Delegates and he will carry this precedent into Washington by proposing legislation to ban any . . .
