The Trump Party removes Representative Cheney from party leadership
Our local representative, David McKinley, appears to have voted “yes”
Earlier today, House Republicans voted to remove Representative Liz Cheney from her leadership position in the Party. The vote was taken behind closed doors with no reporters present. It was also done by voice vote – there is no official record.
Hoppy Kercheval and WV Metro News asked West Virginia’s three representatives to comment on the vote. Via Metro News reporter, Brad McElhinny, here is the response from our local congressman, David McKinley:
Our elected leadership team should articulate a coordinated and unifying message for House Republicans to push back on the extreme agenda of President Biden and Speaker Pelosi. While our party should embrace dissenting voices, it is not productive when members of our leadership team distract from that mission.
It’s time for our party to focus on fighting the massive expansion of government and far-left policies the Biden Administration are pursuing. Moving forward, we need to unify around the goal of stopping these destructive policies and regaining the majority in 2022.
McElhinny notes that McKinley voted against Cheney’s removal in February. What has changed? My hunch is that McKinley, with a likely primary fight against rabid Trumpian (Rep. Alex Mooney) looming, will become an even bigger supporter of the Trump Party in the coming months. Ironically, Mooney chose not to state how he voted. (WV's third representative, Representative Carol Miller said that she voted “yes.”)
