Senator Capito: Is this what you mean by "an independent Justice Department?"
Here is Attorney General William Barr at his confirmation hearing last February:
"Nothing could be more destructive of our system of government, of the rule of law, or the Department of Justice as an institution than any toleration of political interference with the enforcement of the law."

Reporting the Trump/Manchin story
More misrepresentation and bias from the Wheeling Intelligencer
On page 2 of today's Wheeling Intelligencer, our local “newspaper” prints a little over half of an AP story that documents the feud between President Trump and West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin. Comparing today's printed article with the Associated Press original, I found that the Intelligencer edited out a sentence explaining the . . .
It’s a good thing that the extraction industries no longer control West Virginia politics!
Riley Moore, the grandson of Arch Moore and nephew of Shelley Moore Capito will hold a fundraiser this week in Charleston and guess who's invited
From Phil Kabler’s “Statehouse Beat” in Sunday's Charleston Gazette-Mail:
State treasurer candidate Riley Moore is having a fundraiser in Charleston Feb. 13, with an interesting lineup of special guests, event chairs and committee members.

Trump simply cannot move on
He just escalated his fight with WV's Joe Manchin -- one of few Democrats that have supported him
According to FiveThirtyEight, West Virginia's Joe Manchin leads all active Democrat senators in voting President Trump's way. Despite this, Trump criticized Manchin yesterday morning (see my last post). Not willing (or, more likely, unable) to stop, Trump continued his attack on Manchin last night:
...But, just like the people of . . .
Trump weighs-in on WV's senators after the impeachment vote
Guess which one is a puppet, and which one is a great person
(Hint -- the puppet is not the one that votes 96% of the time with the President.)
From President Trump's Twitter* account:
I was very surprised & disappointed that Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia voted against me on the Democrat’s . . .
Mitt Romney
Some different points of view of the Republican senator
Donald Trump
Today, just after midnight:
Had failed presidential candidate @MittRomney devoted the same energy and anger to defeating a faltering Barack Obama as he sanctimoniously does to me, he could have won the election. Read the Transcripts!

More on Manchin’s censure vote (with 1 pm and Manchin decision updates)
Sorry, Joe, it’s doomed -- you're going to have to vote on the articles of impeachment
Senator Manchin has proposed censuring President Trump rather than impeaching him. (See previous post.) Here’s more evidence from The Hill that it’s not going to happen:
Sen. Mike Braun (R-Ind.), asked if there was an appetite for a potential censure, said, “No. Zero.”
A spokesman for McConnell declined to answer a question . . .
