Senator Joe announces on Fox News that he is killing the Build Back Better bill and voting rights bill
This morning on Fox:
Manchin also signals that he isn't in favor of changing the filibuster rules for voting rights. So that's basically it for Biden's agenda in this Congress. pic.twitter.com/wY87eWLBFy

Some follow-up on the previous post: Understanding Senator Manchin's and Capito’s opposition to extending child care subsidies
If you are wondering why both Manchin and Capito are opposed to extending the child care subsidies, the stumbling block for both appears to be whether religious organizations should be allowed to discriminate. While both Manchin and Capito are in favor of continuing the subsidy for child care, both also want the rules on who runs child care . . .
“No one pressures me, I’m from West Virginia”
Senator Joe Manchin on extending the child tax credit
West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin has expressed reservations about the expanded child tax credit program. Here was his reaction to criticism of his position, earlier today:
Manchin was getting an earful on the floor from Democrats over child tax credit. But I just asked Manchin about that pressure. “No one pressures me," I'm from West . . .
More on the Republican coronavirus strategy (WV chapter)
Discourage control of the virus then blame Biden for the results
The WV Republican Party continues to fight mandates
WV Attorney General Patrick Morrisey:
We are working on yet another lawsuit against the Biden Administration. You would think they would have learned their lesson about mandates?
Our work continues after we file our huge party brief at SCOTUS on our Article I, EPA authority case . . .
Two stories you probably won’t see in Wheeling’s papers
Yes, American newspapers can still do investigative reporting
From the front page of today’s Charleston Gazette-Mail
. . .FirstEnergy and the Grant Town Power Plant admit a federally mandated contract between them is uneconomic for ratepayers, leaving WV's low-income ratepayers vulnerable and enriching Sen. Manchin. https://t.co/HmHVuyFl3p

Senator Shelley Moore Capito and the coronavirus
Senator Capito echoes the Republican Party's opposition to covid vaccine mandates. The shorter Republican version: we’re catering to the base and if the virus worsens, we'll then blame the President for not controlling the virus. (It's a win either way!)
That may be a cynical take on Republican talking points, but Capito and the Party appears to have embraced it.
From the AP report in yesterday’s Wheeling Intelligencer:
Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., said a telephone town hall she recently held with constituents made clear they are concerned about keeping their job . . .

The plot thickens on the "Ogden Newspapers buys ski area papers" story
Earlier today, Robert Nutting sold Seven Springs to Vail Resorts (a co-incidence, I'm sure)
I've been following Robert Nutting and Ogden Newspapers acquisition of numerous newspapers in ski country in the western United States. From Pittsburgh Trib-Live, earlier today:
Pittsburgh Pirates owner Bob Nutting is selling his three ski resorts in the Laurel Highlands — Seven Springs Mountain Resort near Champion, Hidden . . .
