Wheeling’s “newspapers” apparently care about veterans
They have remained totally silent, however, when President Trump has disrespected them as he did this weekend
A look at the president’s Veteran’s Day weekend:
Saturday
On Saturday, Trump skipped a World War I commemoration ceremony because it was raining. As was widely-reported:
Trump has faced widespread criticism over his decision not to attend the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery and Memorial over the weekend as world . . .
Four lawsuits against WV’s Secretary of State settled (updated 9/19)
While other media examined the suits, Ogden devoted 665 words to WV Secretary of State Mac Warner’s outrage. (It’s the least they could do for a favorite.)
A short quiz
Here’s how several WV news sources headlined a story about the results of a lawsuit against the secretary of state. See if you can spot the headline that appeared on the front page of today’s Wheeling News-Register:
- A. Ex-Secretary of State Employees Settle Lawsuits Over Firings
- B. 4 Warner lawsuits . . .
Morrisey chutzpah on the debates
Patrick Morrisey attacks Joe Manchin on the canceled debate; the Intelligencer covers for him by lying about what happened
I think psychologists call this "projection"
As statewide news reports noted yesterday, a second debate will not take place because the Morrisey campaign failed to meet the necessary deadlines. (See next post down.)
Earlier today, Republican senatorial candidate Patrick Morrisey retweeted this from Nathan Brand:
. . .West Virginians will see two senatorial debates
What about debates between congressional candidates – how about McKinley/Fershee?
Not likely
Reporter Jake Zuckerman examined the possibility of congressional debates in West Virginia on the front page of today’s Charleston Gazette-Mail and found a lack of interest by Republican candidates statewide. Here is what he said about WV’s 1st District:
In the 1st District, West Virginia University law . . .
Belmont County Republican Party Chairman resigns over Trump’s statements
The New York Times, Newsweek, and WTOV covered this; local Ogden papers did not
Yesterday, Belmont County Republican Party Chairman Chris Gagin tweeted the following after President Trump's news conference with Putin:
. . .I remain a proud conservative and Republican, but I resigned today as Belmont Co Ohio GOP Chairman. I did so as a matter of conscience, and my sense of duty.

Did the Justice Department release something important yesterday?
I must be wrong – there’s nothing about it in this morning’s Intelligencer
If you watched any national news yesterday on network or cable channels, the top story was the same. If you go to Kiosko, you'll find that all five of today’s featured papers plus The Wall Street Journal placed it at the top of their front page. As the Associated Press headlined it in one of its many reports:
Watchdog: Comey . . .
Which is more important? Police dogs and deputies in Bethesda, Ohio or Trump/North Korea?
At least the Intelligencer is consistent
The top story this morning in major newspapers across the United States:
Clearly, President Trump's decision to cancel the meeting with North Korea was this morning's important national story.
The top story in this morning's Wheeling Intelligencer was:
. . .Tumult Continues in Bethesda
