Belmont County Republican Party Chairman resigns over Trump’s statements
The New York Times, Newsweek, and WTOV covered this; local Ogden papers did not
Yesterday, Belmont County Republican Party Chairman Chris Gagin tweeted the following after President Trump's news conference with Putin:
I remain a proud conservative and Republican, but I resigned today as Belmont Co Ohio GOP Chairman. I did so as a matter of conscience, and my sense of duty.
— Chris Gagin (@cgagin) July 16, 2018
The President is entitled to GOP party leaders, at all levels, fully committed to his views and agenda. Following today’s press conference with Pres. Putin, as well as certain policy differences, most especially on trade, I could no longer fulfill that duty. Thus, I resigned.

In addition to numerous retweets, Gagin’s resignation has made it to local and national news sources. From The New York Times:
The effect extended far beyond official Washington. One local official — Chris Gagin, the chairman of the Republican Party in Belmont County, Ohio — resigned his post, announcing on Twitter that he “did so as a matter of conscience, and my sense of duty.”
(Here's local WTOV’s report.)
Maybe it's well-hidden but I could not find anything about this on either the Wheeling Intelligencer’s or Bridgeport Times-Leader’s web sites. Perhaps one of these Ogden “newspapers” could send a send out a reporter to see if Gagin suffers from what Rand Paul and the News-Register call “Trump derangement syndrome.” (See update on previous post.)
