Two stories you probably won’t see in Wheeling’s papers
Yes, American newspapers can still do investigative reporting
From the front page of today’s Charleston Gazette-Mail
. . .FirstEnergy and the Grant Town Power Plant admit a federally mandated contract between them is uneconomic for ratepayers, leaving WV's low-income ratepayers vulnerable and enriching Sen. Manchin. https://t.co/HmHVuyFl3p

Senator Shelley Moore Capito and the coronavirus
Senator Capito echoes the Republican Party's opposition to covid vaccine mandates. The shorter Republican version: we’re catering to the base and if the virus worsens, we'll then blame the President for not controlling the virus. (It's a win either way!)
That may be a cynical take on Republican talking points, but Capito and the Party appears to have embraced it.
From the AP report in yesterday’s Wheeling Intelligencer:
Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., said a telephone town hall she recently held with constituents made clear they are concerned about keeping their job . . .

Nothing changes (except the date)
Reading Ogden’s Monday editorial page
More recycled editorials
Today's first editorial is two-weeks-old and comes from Ogden’s Elkins paper, The Intermountain. The editorial comes out against bullies:
It’s Time to End Bullying in W.Va.
Coming soon: “Don’t Litter,” “Avoid Texting While Driving,” and “Don't Forget to Get Your Flu Shot.”

The McKinley/Mooney battle begins
West Virginia’s congressional redistricting has been completed and the results will pit District 1’s current congressman, David McKinley, against District 2’s Alex Mooney. I would think that we will be seeing and hearing from both of them right up until the primary next spring. Both were on WV Metro News this week. Here are my reactions.

Capito/Afghanistan and editorials
Supporting Senator Shelley
Today on page 6 of the Wheeling Intelligencer, Steven Allen Adams, Ogden’s political reporter, rewrites a Shelley Moore Capito press release about a partisan Afghanistan bill that our senator and a majority of the Senate Republicans are supporting:
In a statement Monday, Capito, R-W.Va., . . .
Some notes on West Virginia's senators
Tone deaf Joe Manchin
I saw this clip earlier today; I think the visual says more than the audio:
West Virginians are kayaking to Joe Manchin's yacht and demanding he explain why he's stopping the reconciliation bill from advancingpic.twitter.com/Q09OC1aEHo
