Eliminating the WV income tax
Republicans, the Promise Scholarship, and a vulture with a bow tie
Locally, I have seen very little local reporting on this, but the Republican super-majority in the West Virginia legislature looks intent upon eliminating the personal state income tax. At our local Ogden papers, Steven Allen Adams has mentioned it and Mike Myer raised the idea last year. But for something that will negatively impact a . . .

You would think that those who were at the head of line would have some sympathy for those who weren’t
Not necessarily so. Here’s our local congressman, David McKinley:
Nominee for terrible legislator:
“Complaining about not getting enough vaccines is like complaining about the size of your meal," said Rep. David McKinley . . .
Yesterday, Senator Shelley Moore Capito explained the debate over a coronavirus relief package to the state’s stenographers
Lucky for us, an Ogden representative participated
Yesterday, West Virginia’s junior senator, Shelley Moore Capito, met online with some West Virginia media to discuss the Republican and Democratic coronavirus stimulus plans. Jess Mancini (from another Ogden paper) wrote the story for today’s Wheeling editions. Most of the article consists of Capito explaining the Republican . . .

Sedition is not enough of a reason
Yesterday, Senator Shelley Moore Capito, apparently worried about her 2026 reelection, supported Rand Paul’s amendment to dismiss the article of impeachment against Donald Trump
From today’s Washington Post:
All but five Republican senators backed former president Donald Trump on Tuesday in a key test vote ahead of his impeachment trial, signaling that the proceedings are likely to end with Trump’s acquittal on the charge that he incited the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

Manchin strikes again
"Sit down and work with your colleagues." Senator, when has Mitch McConnell ever demonstrated that he can be trusted?
From the Washington Post's Greg Sargent:
Here's my exchange with Sen. Manchin. He says he won't support ending the filibuster even on organizing resolutions.
I asked him about the fact that McConnell isn't letting Dems take over the majority. His answer is Schumer/McConnell have to work it out:https://t.co/coyVTcRLhc . . .

Ohio odds and ends
Because you probably don’t get enough of them from our Wheeling, West Virginia paper
Today’s Wheeling Intelligencer had its usual Monday editorial on Ohio state government – this one dealt with that state’s budget for the next year. (Not to be undone, the afternoon paper had a similar editorial.) (Look for a Jefferson County garbage dump editorial later this week.)
