Ogden Newspapers separate the important from the not-so-important
A look at today’s front pages
Obviously, only E is correct. (Note -- choice A did get some coverage on page 3 while B, C and D were ignored.)
That was too easy – as most local readers know, Ogden favorites always get front-page treatment regardless of the importance of other stories. (Notice that both Congressmen McKinley (WV) and Johnson (OH) also . . .

Today’s Wheeling Intelligencer top story: “McKinley To Continue Fight for Fossil Fuels” (with required large picture) (Updated 2/19)
There’s not much news in the article but it is an opportunity for the locals to feature our local congressman criticizing President Biden and his energy policy
According to the article, McKinley is worried about the effects that President Biden's environmental policy will have on employment. If I understand his point, McKinley believes that we need to subsidize fossil fuels* because people are employed in those industries:
“We have to make sure we are going to personalize it and . . .
Truth doesn’t matter to the propagandist
The locals print another Branco political cartoon
I haven’t done an exact count, but I would venture a guess that the Wheeling papers’ favorite political cartoonists is A.F. Branco. Last year, for example, the two local papers published at least a dozen cartoons attacking Michigan’s Democratic governor, Gretchen Whitmer, and a number of them were from Branco. (The cartoons badly . . .
Yesterday, Senator Shelley Moore Capito explained the debate over a coronavirus relief package to the state’s stenographers
Lucky for us, an Ogden representative participated
Yesterday, West Virginia’s junior senator, Shelley Moore Capito, met online with some West Virginia media to discuss the Republican and Democratic coronavirus stimulus plans. Jess Mancini (from another Ogden paper) wrote the story for today’s Wheeling editions. Most of the article consists of Capito explaining the Republican . . .
West Virginia Secretary of State Mac Warner's op-ed in today’s Wheeling News-Register: “Confidence in Government Begins With Election Process”
Hey, Mac, do you think a secretary of state who attends and speaks at a “Stop the Steal” rally breeds confidence in the integrity of the election process?
On December 9, West Virginia Secretary of State Mac Warner certified West Virginia’s election results. That evening, he attended and spoke at a Trump “Stop the Steal” rally in Charleston. At the time, there was no evidence that any election had been stolen and there has been none presented since then.

Sorry, Wheeling Intelligencer, just because you did not consider it a contest doesn’t mean that it wasn’t one
Today’s morning “newspaper” has no results from the West Virginia senatorial race
The TV networks called the race early and it was not very close. (As of 11 AM today, the AP had Republican Shelley Moore Capito easily winning with most of the ballots counted.) Still, that is no reason not to provide results. Of course, that would have meant that they would need to print Paula Jean Searengin’s name – something that the . . .
“We owe no allegiance to any faction, special interest, political party or individual politician.”
Yeah, right. A look at our local papers’ coverage of the 2020 West Virginia senate race
Regular readers of Ogden’s Wheeling “newspapers” see them a couple of times a year (especially on the Intelligencer’s or News-Register’s anniversary): self-congratulatory editorials telling readers how “fair and balanced” they are. The News-Register quote in my title is from 2017 but readers can find similar sentiments every year – here’s a . . .
