Yes, that’s the first thing that comes to mind when I think of our local Ogden “newspapers”
A month ago, it was the Wheeling Intelligencer. Today, it’s the News-Register’s turn for yet another self-praising editorial. From this morning’s editorial:

Easily the biggest article on the front page of today's Wheeling News-Register is the 700-word story (with picture) promoting Ogden’s Corporate Cup Challenge which is two months away. Not unlike the 1900 words on Ogden’s “Tough as Nails Urban Challenge” two weeks . . .

The front page of this morning's Wheeling Intelligencer carried part of an Associated Press report on yesterday's meeting between President Trump and Democratic leaders to end the government shutdown. Unfortunately for local readers, the Intelligencer skipped the AP's third paragraph. (The missing paragraph is in bold.)

If you watched any national news yesterday on network or cable channels, the top story was the same. If you go to Kiosko, you'll find that all five of today’s featured papers plus The Wall Street Journal placed it at the top of their front page. As the Associated Press headlined it in one of its many reports:

It’s August 24, the day that the Wheeling Intelligencer was founded in 1852. Of course, the anniversary is an excuse for an editorial telling us what a great job they are doing in serving their readers. In a long lifetime of personal and professional media observation, I have never seen a media entity praise itself to the extent that Ogden . . .
