Nothing like a little Ogden hypocrisy to start the new year
Yesterday’s editorial in the Wheeling Intelligencer criticized West Virginia’s Republican governor, Jim Justice, for not enforcing his own coronavirus rules at his own property (the Greenbrier) on New Year’s Eve:
Videos posted on the internet of the event show a closely packed room at The Greenbrier filled with many maskless . . .
Wheeling Hospital sets up a tent for non-covid patients. Isn’t this an important story by itself?
Why is it buried on page 6 in the middle of their daily covid report?
The local Wheeling papers usually run daily updates on the local/regional covid situation. Buried in today’s article are these two paragraphs:
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 surge in the Northern Panhandle has forced Wheeling Hospital to install a semi-permanent tent outside the hospital’s emergency-trauma department.

The Greenbriar’s New Year’s Eve Party
Partygoers rang in the new year last night at Governor Justice’s resort, with COVID protocols apparently optional. Meanwhile, the Governor won’t let high school sports begin until March 1. Kids continue to sacrifice while adults celebrate. pic.twitter.com/YhypNKGGk0

“First in Line!” (with Dec 25 update)
The Ohio County Schools edition
On Tuesday, I wrote about how U.S. senators managed to be among the first to receive the coronavirus vaccine nationally. (See two posts down.) Asserting privilege (or, as some might call it, “line jumping”) is not just for the national ruling class – it exists on all levels of government. Last night, WTOV ran the following story on its 6 PM . . .
“I didn’t want to be, but they forced me to be first in line”
”On the advice of the Attending Physician of Congress”
From West Virginia’s Senator Capito:
Following the advice of the Capitol Attending Physician, I received the COVID vaccine this evening. It was quick, painless, and most importantly, it was safe. I plan to receive the second dose in 21 days as required. . . .
The Wheeling Intelligencer wonders why more people don’t wear masks
For those outside the Wheeling area, I’m not kidding – this morning’s editorial in the Wheeling Intelligencer really did ask that question.
So why are so many people refusing to use them? At times, it seems almost as if their attitude is that older people who may contract the disease indirectly through those who . . .
