The Wheeling Alternative
I'll ask again -- which side are you on, Intelligencer?
I have argued (most recently here) that the Intelligencer is not pro-coal, it's pro-coal owner. Pro-coal would mean that you cared about coal miners as something more than troops in the "war on coal." Being pro-coal owner places emphasis on maximizing profits regardless of what happens to the workers. Here is a screen shot of . . .

Murray Energy's Columbian coal purchase - some additional information
Worker's rights?
Here is Casey Junkins take on Murray Energy's purchase of a Columbian coal company from Goldman Sachs in this morning's Intelligencer:
Even though the coal will be mined in South America, a West Virginia Coal Association official believes Murray Energy Corp.'s purchase of Colombia Natural Resources will benefit local . . .

A personal note -- the joy of air travel
(AP photo of BWI)
Skip this if you saw it on the news or if it's likely to cause a horrible flashback of one of your own similar travel experiences.
I was scheduled to fly into Pittsburgh's airport around noon on Saturday. My Southwest connecting flight had gotten me to BWI (Baltimore) on time and our . . .

More "fair and balanced" front-page news from the Intelligencer
Are we sure Robert Murray (or one of his assistants) isn't writing the front-page stories and editorials for the Intelligencer?
The title for Saturday's anti-Obama, pro-coal-owner editorial in the Intelligencer was "Stop Obama Power Grab." Regular readers of Wheeling "newspapers" probably know that . . .
They're out to get us, but "we let them get away with it"-- Myer mails in another column
Saturday's Michael Myer column, "We Let Them Get Away With It," is ostensibly about Senator Capito's bill to limit the EPA actions on coal but it's just another predictable attack on liberals with the usual suspects and the same lack of developed arguments.
The column's targets include the president and . . .

Donald Trump, the Republican debate, Fox News, and Wheeling's "newspapers"
Fox News is now running the Republican Party. I am no fan of Donald Trump but it was clear from the first minute of the debate that Fox News had decided that Trump must go. From the attempt at public shaming for not supporting a future nominee to hardball questions throughout, Fox gave up any pretext that it would be a fair debate. In so . . .

The Charleston Gazette on the EPA rules, Obama's proposals, and the future of coal
This morning's lead editorial in the Charleston Gazette discusses the recent EPA plan:
(C)ritics like to say such a plan to reduce emissions that contribute to climate change is some misguided or unfair effort to reconfigure the energy industry.
However, the energy industry has already reconfigured itself. That was done . . .
