How did our elected representatives respond to Trump's racism?
To no one's surprise, Representative McKinley blames the Democrats
From WV Metro News
McKinley said Trump has been “under relentless pressure” from Democrats and reporters, which led to “his inarticulate and counterproductive response” on Twitter.
McKinley also suggested:
Both sides should tone down the rhetoric.
Senator Joe Manchin calls Trump's tweet racist
From WCHS:
“I think that basically, there’s no way to interpret that except as a racist statement,” Manchin said. “Do I think the president intended it to be racist when he said it? Probably not. But sometimes, you know, he speaks what is on his mind and it comes out the way it does. I would hope and like to think that my president, our president, is not a racist. But that is a racist statement. There’s no doubt about it.”
Senator Shelley Moore Capito (not surprisingly) dodges the question
From WV Metro News:
I think the whole back-and-forth is unproductive. Our time would be better spent figuring out ways to come together and find solutions to fix our broken immigration system.
