WV Senator Shelley Moore Capito
Capito, yesterday, lectured the Democrats on changing the Supreme Court rules:
The Biden-Harris administration didn’t like how some of the #SCOTUS cases were decided, so their solution is to change the rules.

That’s not strengthening democracy or protecting the rule of law. pic.twitter.com/mhcEBPzzUO
Yes, Senator, I remember when Supreme Court Justice Scalia died in early 2016. You and your fellow Republicans said the rule was that there could be no Court appointments in a presidential election year. And then Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg died six weeks before the 2020 election and quicker than you can say “change the rules,” Republicans placed Amy Coney Barrett on the Court.
Additionally: I assume you agree with the Court’s recent ruling that a sitting president can do whatever they please (legal or otherwise) when they are in office. Is that what you call “protecting the rule of law”?
And last night, Capito invoked Ronald Reagan to attack Democrats for being “weak” on tyrants:
President Reagan said it best: “We know only too well that war comes not when the forces of freedom are strong, but when they are weak. It is then that tyrants are tempted.”

Unfortunately under Democratic leadership, the forces of freedom are weakened and tyrants are emboldened. pic.twitter.com/BNYWSj0Ldr
Are you talking about Putin and the Ukraine, Senator? If so, here’s what your party’s choice for Vice President has said about the Ukraine:
OH Senate candidate JD Vance: “I think it’s ridiculous that we are focused on this border in Ukraine. I got to be honest with you, I don’t really care what happens to Ukraine one way or the other.” pic.twitter.com/QtZbckZf0b

Nice touch, Senator Shelley: invoke Reagan as the Trump Party makes plans to abandon the Ukraine if they regain the presidency. (The Gipper must be spinning in his grave.)
WV Treasurer Riley Moore
Here is the WV Trump Party’s nominee for WV Congressional District 2 retweeting a post by his good friend, Jack Posobiec, who earlier this year at CPAC called for the overthrow of our government:
If anti-Catholic bigot Kamala Harris becomes president, Catholics will be persecuted in ways not seen in centuries pic.twitter.com/W69kFQe5XS
— Jack Poso 🇺🇸 (@JackPosobiec) July 31, 2024
Not seen in centuries, sir? You mean like the Inquisition? Riley, Jack or Donald: what does she plan to do? I did some research and could not find any Harris plans for persecution of Catholics. Nor could I find any response from the Knights of Columbus. You wouldn’t be making this up, would you?
(By the way, it’s good to see that the former president has toned down his rhetoric.)
Finally, Joe Manchin calls JD Vance “weird”
From WV’s “independent” senator:
You know Republicans have really lost the PR battle if Joe Manchin is saying that JD Vance’s “childless cat ladies” obsession is weird. https://t.co/GxTPEce8jI
— Keith Boykin (@keithboykin) July 30, 2024
I thought Paul Rudnik summed it up well:
Joe Manchin just called JD Vance "very weird." I bet he was thinking, "I mean, beyond Kyrsten Sinema weird." And here's Mitt Romney, who's refusing to vote for Trump, thinking, "I'm drowning in weird" pic.twitter.com/XQOST9J6Tl
