What have WV's senators been doing lately?
Short answer: same old, same old
Joe Manchin
Like Freddie Kruger, he keeps coming back
From CNN:
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer recently discussed a long-shot idea with Sen. Joe Manchin: Making a late entry into the US Senate race in West Virginia to try to hold on to his seat as an independent. https://t.co/UqkZwdRDBk
— CNN Politics (@CNNPolitics) March 14, 2024
As the article explains:
Democratic sources said the idea could gain currency if their party’s nominee in West Virginia ends up being Don Blankenship, the former coal mining executive who served a year in jail after being found guilty of conspiring to violate mine health and safety standards in the aftermath of a deadly 2010 mine explosion. Blankenship ran as a Republican but lost in the 2018 Senate primary, later switching parties in 2024 to run in the contested Democratic primary to fill Manchin’s seat.
The belief among some Manchin allies: If Blankenship squares off against Gov. Jim Justice, the front-runner for the GOP nomination, Manchin could have a path to win with a plurality of voters. Manchin has until August 1 to file as an independent.
Manchin supposedly threw “cold water” on the idea. But, of course, he then hedged:
“I understand the scenario,” Manchin told CNN. “I want my state to be represented properly for someone who has a passion for our state. So we just have to see what unfolds. Really – after the primary . . . it’ll tell you a lot more.”
Like a cat chasing a laser pointer, Manchin can’t resist the light.
And here is Manchin advising the President
Earlier this week:

In case anyone is interested, here’s why?
“He’s been pushed so far left it’s unbelievable.”
Seriously? Can’t you just go away?
WV Senator Capito posts her weekly complaints about energy independence and inflation
There are not many things in politics that are more predictable than Capito’s Twitter posts.
Inflation
Here’s Senator Capito criticizing Biden and then bragging about all the great things that the Republicans have done to lower inflation:
While President Biden continues to tell struggling Americans that high prices are not his fault, @SenateGOP is fighting to reduce spending and lower prices for families.#Bidenomics is NOT working.
— Shelley Moore Capito (@SenCapito) March 12, 2024
Republicans are “fighting to reduce spending and lower prices.” Really, Senator. Could you name just ONE thing that the Republicans have done, or even suggested? (I don’t think trying to shut down the government counts?) Just one. And could you also explain why America’s inflation has been less than most of the developed world?
Capito on energy independence
Of course, this is always about “radical” Biden policies:
Time and time again, President Biden’s radical energy policies have made vital resources less affordable, less available, and less reliable.@SenateGOP stands with American energy and will continue to push towards energy independence.
— Shelley Moore Capito (@SenCapito) March 13, 2024
Sorry, Senator, but on “energy independence.” we are already there. As CNBC’s Carl Quintanilla quotes JP Morgan:
JPMORGAN: “.. the US has achieved US energy independence for the first time in 40 years while Europe and China compete for global energy resources.” [Cembalest] #OOTT 🇺🇸 pic.twitter.com/D8QMkssO4m

Off-topic, but have you seen Republican candidate for WV governor Chris Miller’s latest ad?
Miller is moving on from chasing commies and critical race theory:
🚨#MillerforGov releases new TV Ad!🚨
— Chris Miller (@chrismillergov) March 12, 2024
I own guns because I like ‘em.
I shoot guns because it’s fun, and it’s my God-given right.
So gun-grabbers listen up: Any attempt to infringe upon #WV’s rights to keep and bear arms will be met with full resistance so long as I’m Governor.… pic.twitter.com/TM4SUSZsJC
The ad looks like a SNL parody. If hits are what Miller wanted, he is certainly getting them online – as of 1 PM, he’s at 30,000 views and counting. Just a hunch, not many are WV voters.
