Keeping tabs on WV’s Trump Party impeachment efforts and its local media supporters
For starters:
"BREAKING: House Speaker Kevin McCarthy Announces Formal Impeachment Inquiry Into Joe Biden" https://t.co/it1ehyaPyS
— WVGOP (@WVGOP) September 19, 2023
Is it legitimate?
As Republicans plunge forward with an impeachment inquiry against President Biden, witnesses they have summoned for closed-door interviews in recent weeks have undercut or pushed back against some of their major claims. https://t.co/uCNAurvw5b

So what is this about? How about score settling?
Analysis: Kevin McCarthy directed an impeachment inquiry into President Biden based on “allegations,” making the process a debasement of what was intended to be a constitutional vehicle to remove a president for malfeasance. https://t.co/2jEPoNH4d7

The West Virginia politicians
Republican Senate candidate Alex Mooney on Metro News’ Talkline:
Today on Talkline with @HoppyKercheval @RepAlexMooney gives his thoughts on the Biden impeachment inquiry.

For the most part, Hoppy Kercheval did not press Mooney on most of his assertions (especially about the budget) although he did ask for some proof for what evidence warranted an impeachment of Biden. Mooney could provide none but suggested that looking for evidence of wrongdoing was why they were investigating. (Cart, meet horse!) And as if to support the Washington Post’s thesis, Mooney later admitted that the impeachment inquiry was in retribution for Trump’s two impeachments.
Mooney’s opponent, Jim Justice, would appear to agree with this rationale:

What has been done to @realDonaldTrump is unacceptable in every way … Americans deserve to know the truth about President Biden and his family’s business dealings.

Trump media: our local Ogden newspapers
Monday's editorial page featured columnists Ben Shapiro (“Impeachment of Joe Biden”) and Mona Charen (“It’s Time That We Stop Hidin’ Biden”) and this political cartoon that begged the impeachment question:

Tuesday’s Intelligencer featured Rich Lowry (“No Question: Joe Biden’s Corrupt”) and another cartoon that assumed that the charges against the president were a matter of fact.
Trump media: local WTOV - 9
See if you can spot the only non-local news story at the top of this evening's WTOV web page:
Trump media: local WTRF -7
Earlier today, the old and totally discredited story about Joe Biden taking a shower with his daughter was once again listed among WTRF's trending stories. I wrote about it here but at 8:30 PM it was no longer on their web page.
The major exception: Republican Senator Shelley Moore Capito
When asked about impeachment:
“I don’t know what it’s based on,” GOP Senator Shelley Moore Capito told reporters. “I have no idea what they’re talking about. I don’t want to see impeachment being used as an everyday instrument." https://t.co/S1VZ2wpylF
— The New Republic (@newrepublic) September 13, 2023
With that kind of honesty, I don’t think that Shelley will be running for reelection in 2026.
