Forget taxes, critical race theory, and destroying public education, what West Virginia’s Republican Party most cares about are guns
You probably saw this article in today’s Wheeling Intelligencer:
An unsuccessful bill that caused infighting among Republican lawmakers four years ago to allow college students to carry concealed weapons on campus is back, this time being considered by the West Virginia Senate. https://t.co/94OG76g5me pic.twitter.com/4ON6sjisJz

Despite opposition from campus leaders, some legislature watchers think that campus carry will pass this time:
LIVE: WV Senate Judiciary has taken up SB 10, the "campus carry." Counsel is up now describing all the exceptions the latest substitution has in.

This is a bill that has come up for years and is always a huge issue that has ultimately died. The forecast for this year? Passing.
And talk about legislation whose time has finally arrived:
The first proposed cannabis bill at the federal level has been introduced in the 118th Congress, proposing to allow medical cannabis patients to purchase and possess firearms. The bill was introduced by Rep. Alex Mooney (R-WV) and is being cosponsored by…https://t.co/uz3Kb0Hin9

Except that it hasn’t. Like Mooney's “return America to the gold standard bill” that he sponsored in October, this bill is about Mooney demonstrating his loyalty to right-wing causes. Of course, Mooney is just following in the footsteps of Riley Moore, the state #1 publicity hound:
Today, I announced the introduction of The Second Amendment Financial Privacy Act, which will protect West Virginians from the efforts of woke activists to create a de facto national gun registry using credit and debit card records.

And let’s not leave out WV Attorney General Patrick Morrisey:
Do you think citizens who rely on pistol braces to fire guns are part of some huge crime problem in America?
— Patrick Morrisey (@MorriseyWV) January 14, 2023
The Biden pistol brace final rule is an affront to disabled citizens & seniors across the nation.
I won’t stand for it — and will continue to stand for your 2A rights!
West Virginia is at, or near, the bottom of every state ranking that ought to matter. Not to worry, if its politicians have any say in the matter, we'll still have our guns.
