About the gun to be given away
It may be just a coincidence but this particular rifle has an interesting connection to the January 6 assault on the Capitol. From The New York Times last September:
A Georgia man who had an assault rifle and was headed to Washington for the Jan. 6 pro-Trump rally at the U.S. Capitol pleaded guilty on Friday to sending threatening text messages about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
The man, Cleveland Grover Meredith Jr., wrote to an acquaintance the day after the violent attack on the U.S. Capitol that he would put âa bullet in her noggin on Live TVâ and included a purple devil emoji, the federal authorities said. In other messages, he said he would run over Ms. Pelosi.
âI predict that within 12 days, many in our country will die,â he wrote.
Mr. Meredith had been staying at a Holiday Inn in Washington and had weapons in his camper-style trailer, including a Glock handgun, a Tavor X95 assault rifle and thousands of rounds of ammunition, according to court records.
(Special hat tip to the PatriotTakes Twitter feed for first noticing this.)
By the way, what does it say about your support if you have to give away a gun in order to encourage attendance?
Boebert and guns
Representative Lauren Boebert has some interesting gun connections including her bar which requires workers to carry loaded guns. Additionally, last December, Kentucky Republican Thomas Massie posted the following shortly after a Michigan student killed four of his fellow classmates last December:
Merry Christmas! đ

ps. Santa, please bring ammo. đ pic.twitter.com/NVawULhCNr
Massie was widely criticized but Boebert came to his defense with this tweet:
The Boeberts have your six, @RepThomasMassie!

It should be an interesting rally!
