Yet another fox for the henhouse: Dow Chemical lawyer to oversee Trump administration's response to hazardous spills and toxic sites
Why not?
From the Associated Press earlier today:
President Donald Trump on Friday tapped a chemical industry insider to run the Environmental Protection Agency office that oversees emergency response to hazardous spills and cleanups of the nation’s most toxic sites.
The White House announced that Trump has nominated Peter C. Wright to serve as EPA’s assistant administrator for Land and Emergency Management. Wright has worked as a corporate lawyer at Dow Chemical Co. since 1999.
Despite Trump’s campaign pledges to “drain the swamp” in Washington, Wright’s nomination is the latest example of the president appointing corporate lawyers or lobbyists to supervise federal offices that directly regulate their former employers. . . .
An analysis of EPA data by The Associated Press shows Dow and DuPont are listed as responsible parties for more than 100 of the toxic sites currently undergoing or slated for cleanup across the nation.
Dow also provided a $1 million check to Trump’s inaugural committee.
And then there are the not-quite-smart-like-a-fox group
Trump wants his personal pilot to head the FAA. As Axios reports:
The president’s personal pilot is on the administration's short list to head the Federal Aviation Administration. Trump has told a host of administration officials and associates that he wants John Dunkin — his longtime personal pilot, who flew him around the country on Trump Force One during the campaign — to helm the agency, which has a budget in the billions and which oversees all civil aviation in the United States.
Dunkin would join Trump's other former employees. As Rachael Maddow has noted:
Donald Trump’s golf caddie is the White House Director of Social Media now. His longtime bodyguard is the Director of Oval Office operations. . . . Eric Trump’s wedding planner was put in charge of HUD for the northeastern United States. A member of the Trump household staff at Trump Tower – her husband ran a home contracting company called ‘Steve’s Tools in Motion’ before he somehow ended up getting a job at EPA Region 2 headquarters in New York. This is the same president who named his bankruptcy lawyer ambassador to Israel.
Yes, it is quite a crew!
