Treasurer Riley Moore gets front-page coverage for simply doing his job
From the front page of today’s Wheeling Intelligencer:
WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital Gets Almost $85,000 in Unclaimed Property
And it features this picture:
(The caption tells us that WH’s CEO is pointing out “notable sites on the hospital property.” Wow!)*
And from yesterday’s [Greenbriar] West Virginia Daily News:
State Treasurer Riley Moore delivers over $30k in unclaimed property funds to Greenbrier County Commission
And from local WTOV:
OHIO COUNTY:
— Gianna DaPra (@GiannaWTOV9) June 7, 2023
WV Treasurer Riley Moore is at WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital presenting an unclaimed property check! Nearly $85,000 and will go back into the hospitals foundation! The details on @WTOV9 pic.twitter.com/NxitkwANmC
Hey, West Virginia media, this is not news: the money did not come from Riley Moore’s personal checking account -- the money came from the WV treasury which got it from dormant accounts. Riley Moore is just doing his job as his predecessors did with a lot less fanfare.
Additional important stuff from the Intelligencer article
Reporter Jocelyn King tells us that Moore enjoys coming to Wheeling and that he has “driven past Wheeling Hospital many times.” Finally, no Riley Moore puff piece is complete without a reminder of his lineage:
Moore is the oldest grandson of former Gov. Arch Moore, and the nephew of U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-West Virginia.
(However, King forgot to mention that Moore's first job was as a welder.)
*I considered dropping my ironic use of "Wow!" with an exclamation point as being a bit much and then noticed WTOV's DaPra used not one, but two exclamation points to describe what is a totally mundane governmental action.
