The cult of personality
Here’s the Washington County (PA) GOP Chair, Dave Ball, explaining why PA’s Republican Senator Pat Toomey should be censured for his “yes” vote on impeachment:
Actual quote from a PA GOP official, explaining why Sen. Toomey should be censured: “We did not send him there to vote his conscience. We did not send him there to ‘do the right thing’ or whatever”

Earlier today, The Washington Post’s Greg Sargent wrote about Ball and the Trump cult:
Everyone is laughing at this GOP quote about Pat Toomey:
— Greg Sargent (@ThePlumLineGS) February 16, 2021
"We did not send him there to do the right thing. We sent him there to represent us."
But the idea that "representing" GOP voters means impunity for Trump is the mainstream GOP position. New piece:https://t.co/dXhGW9wzoD
(By the way, the Sargent article is excellent.)
Speaking of "ugly" attacks, here is what happens when you leave the cult:
Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) has been shunned by his family for speaking out against Trump and the Jan 6 insurrection. Family says he's not christian and worships the devil.

CNN is calling this activity by the family, cult behavior.
More on Dave Ball
A quick search of the Ogden-owned Washington Observer-Reporter’s website reveals that Chairman Ball contributes op-eds to the to the paper and on December 28, Ball wrote this op-ed:
The Greatest Crime in History
What could that possibly be? Ball begins:
The greatest crime in history was committed during the past election.
Make no mistake, the election was fraudulent, easily to the level of criminality. It is time to stop using statements such as “unproven,” “for which there is no proof,” “baseless claims” and so on prefixed to discussions of what went on in the presidential election.
Reams of documentation of voting irregularities exist, literally thousands of sworn affidavits of witnessed voter fraud have been gathered, videotapes of people fraudulently processing ballots have been shown, demonstrations have shown that voting machines have been illegally tampered with to provide false results and statistical experts have testified to the impossibility of numerous results.
Since it was an Ogden paper, the op-ed was probably indistinguishable from their regular syndicated columnists.
Finally, "steals" may be a bit harsh, here
Perhaps, the word should only be reserved for elections.
