The GOP: Sports and politics don’t mix (except when Republicans benefit)
Do Republicans hate professional sports?
From the national GOP:

(Wow, Communists -- this is serious!)
What about Ogden Newspapers owner, Bob Nutting?
Robert Nutting, local Republican propagandist and owner of the Pittsburgh Pirates, is doing his part to kill any Pittsburgh-area love for baseball. Last night’s score:
Cincinnati Reds 14
Pittsburgh Pirates 1
In fairness to Nutting, the game was closer than the score would indicate. (The Reds waited until the bottom of the first to score their first run.)*
Inquiring minds want to know: do Republicans hate sports or just certain ones?
Conservative Washington Post columnist, Jennifer Rubin, answers the question:
conservatives apparently hate all sports.. first the NFL, then basketball ("shut up and dribble") and now baseball.

Hmmm. What do these sports have in common?
In case you’re wondering which party wealthy sports owners politically support, last October, ESPN and FiveThirtyEight tracked their political contributions here:
Election 2020: Inside the political donation history of wealthy sports owners
(Spoiler alert -- the owners overwhelmingly support Republicans.)
Additionally, Esquire's Jack Holmes has an excellent analysis of what Republicans expect from Fortune 500 CEOs and sports owners here:
Republicans Are Now Running the 'Stick-to-Sports' Routine on Fortune 500 CEOs
*Good news: the Pirates are improving -- they only lost 11-4 today.
