The EIA mountaintop removal report
The Energy Information Agency is out with a new report on mountaintop removal and the Intelligencer, like a number of other newspapers in coal country, has a front page story on it.
Casey Junkins cites the study that this type of mining has declined 62% since 2008. Junkins, following what is apparently an Intelligencer requirement for any story about coal, then goes to a coal source who blames Obama for everything. Bill Raney, WV Coal Association President tells us:
I think I can put all of it right at the feet of the Obama administration.
(Compare that to the Associated Press story, here, for instance, which doesn't even mention the Obama administration.)
Junkins does balance Raney with a researcher from WVU and some quotes from the Sierra Club.
Here's a short clip from a Smithsonian Channel documentary on West Virginia mountaintop mining.
