Some follow-up on Saturday’s post about re-opening schools in the middle of a pandemic
Despite optimism from Trump, his supporters, and certain clueless media, schools are facing problems
The numbers are not good
Here’s the headline at CNN, earlier today:
97,000 children tested positive for Covid-19 in 2 weeks as more schools plan to reopen
Fox News reacts
And here is a Fox news personality who apparently gets her coronavirus info on the spread of the virus from Ogden Newspapers:
Ainsley Earhardt deals with the consequences of her network & president's covid-19 misinformation: "97,000 kids have tested positive? That was such a shock to me because I had heard kids don't really get it, if they do they're all going to be OK." pic.twitter.com/yKr94fLxcY

Here's another semi-clueless Republican senator not worried about school’s reopening
Any setting in which people interact will lead to infections
— Marco Rubio (@marcorubio) August 10, 2020
The good news is these infected students are at very low risk of complications
The key is:
-lowering risk of student infections
-more importantly lowering risk of students infecting staff or high risk family members https://t.co/rdvQT3IqdH
Nine are already infected. And how do you propose to lower the risk to staff and family members, Senator?
Finally, here’s more downplaying of the risks involved in reopening from Ogden
Today’s column by Ogden Newspaper’s political reporter, Steven Allen Adams, also deals with the virus. After admitting that he at first underestimated the virus, Adams finishes by taking a shot at teachers (it’s not the first time):
But the idea daycare workers and grocery employees have been working and interacting with customers with minimal outbreaks, yet some teachers are in a full-on panic about returning to school next month, is perplexing.
Here’s a suggestion for Adams: spend a day with a pre-school or elementary school teacher and see if you come away thinking it’s not very risky or in any way similar to working the checkout at a Kroger or even day care. Or work as a teacher monitoring the halls during a class change like the one captured recently in Georgia and featured in Rubio’s tweet above. Yeah, nothing to worry about.
