New Manchin poll numbers drop
What do you think? I'm looking for comments on a Morning Consult poll that shows Senator Manchin losing 17 points from his January poll numbers
Morning Consult which does a quarterly poll measuring the approval and disapproval numbers for U.S. senators just published their most recent poll. The results are not good for WV Democrat Joe Manchin whose difference between approval and disapproval showed the biggest decline:
Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, who is up for re-election in a state where 58 percent of voters approved of President Donald Trump during the first quarter, now finds himself 1 point underwater — 43 percent approve, 44 percent disapprove — after a net slide of 17 points from fourth quarter, the biggest decline of any senator during that period.
(In case you are interested, Vermont's Bernie Sanders had the best numbers (72% approve, 23% disapprove) and Kentucky's Mitch McConnell (34% approve, 52% disapprove) had the worst numbers.)
Two questions for my readers: Why do you think Manchin's numbers have dropped? Do you believe he will prevail in November?
Here is your chance to tell us what you think. Click on the quotation icon below and write your comment. I'll receive notice of your comments through Disqus and will need to approve them so don't get discouraged if they don't immediately appear.
Some suggestions: stay on topic and while I would encourage comments on previous comments, avoid personal attacks. If you're a regular reader, you probably know that I'm not a fan of racist, sexist, nativist, homophobic, etc. speech and so I probably won't approve such comments. (Readers can also flag for review what they believe are objectionable comments.) To summarize, I'll borrow from the comment section of Grist -- "don't be a jerk." (I hope to put together a more formal policy that I'll publish at a later date.)
From personal notes from readers and the comments I've already published, I think I have a knowledgeable and articulate readership. Hopefully adding more insights to this blog will further enhance your experience.
