More on masks and why we're doomed
The morning Intelligencer's editorial page ignored the coronavirus --it was more concerned about statues (three columnists and a cartoon). On the other hand, the afternoon paper did publish a week-old syndicated column supporting the re-opening of the country and an editorial that concluded:
COVID-19 has made somewhat of a comeback during the past two weeks -- but not to emergency levels. Clearly, the reopening process needs to proceed, at the highest speed compatible with public safety.
"Somewhat of a comeback" and proceed "at the highest speed"? They claim to be a newspaper -- do they pay any attention to the news?
Why don't we learn from other countries? Why isn't everyone wearing a mask?
Hong Kong, for example:
"The key secret of Hong Kong’s success, Prof. Yuen said, is that the mask compliance rate during morning rush hour is 97%. The 3% who don’t comply are mainly Americans and Europeans, he said." https://t.co/pMQ4PFzx5a

In recent days, it would appear that Vice President Pence and Senate Majority Leader McConnell have finally seen the light on the importance of wearing a mask. Why can't they get President Trump to wear a mask?
White House @PressSec Kayleigh McEnany says it is President Trump’s “choice” not to wear a mask amid a surge in new coronavirus cases.

“It’s the personal choice of any individual as to whether to wear a mask.” McEnany adds, noting President Trump has “no problem with masks.”
Until that happens, the numbers will continue to rise.
We are probably doomed.
