Missing in action: a quick look at the Republican response to Donald Trump’s attack on General Mark Milley
Donald Trump last week:
Trump’s reaction to the @JeffreyGoldberg profile of Mark Millley - which shows new depths of Trump’s depravity and derangement - is to imply that Milley should get the death penalty.

Trump knows exactly what he’s doing here.https://t.co/F7V9j7DcET pic.twitter.com/wivuuZuZTr
At last night’s debate on Fox Business, no candidate was asked about Trump’s statement. As conservative Bill Kristol noted:
Maybe it happened and I missed it, but it would have been nice if one of the Republicans on stage last night had taken a moment to thank Gen. Milley for his 43 years of service, including his resistance to turning the military into a praetorian guard under Trump.

Additionally, I could find no mention, let alone criticism, of Trump’s tweet from the West Virginia GOP or any prominent WV Republican. In fact, just the opposite is occurring as the WV GOP is leading the battle to ensure that Trump remains on the ballot.
Local coverage? From the Intelligencer online search engine, here is the listing of recent Wheeling Intelligencer articles that mention General Milley:
Not surprising, Ogden has said nothing about Trump’s attack on General Milley. Would the Intelligencer have ignored this had Obama, Biden, or any prominent Democrat had said something similar? (Does any local reader believe that the late editor of the Intelligencer, Mike Myer, would have remained silent had any Democrat criticized Milley?)
A final thought: perhaps one of our local papers could editorially remind us (as one did last weekend) how they “owe no allegiance to any special interest or powerful person.”
