Could we possibly raise the bar on requirements for becoming West Virginia’s Attorney General?
Our present AG and his likely replacement beg that question
From Patrick Morrisey, running for the Republican nomination for governor:
My opponents in the swamp are getting very concerned that I am going to clean up Charleston in a way they have never seen before.

Miller and Capito are products of the swamp and completely dependent upon government handouts and political perks to thrive.
We will speak the…
I’m sorry, but cleaning up “the swamp” is not the governor’s job; if an officeholder has done something illegal, that is a job for . . . . let me think . . . the ATTORNEY GENERAL. Okay, Patrick, you’ve been in that job for over 11 years. How about a list of all the swamp critters you’ve removed since 2013? Can you name one? (Sorry, WV Supreme Court justices don’t count; they were removed by the legislature.) What a pathetic candidate.
And here is Mike Stuart, a current Republican candidate for West Virginia Attorney General, speaking out on Donald Trump violating his gag order:
Trump contempt? It’s more of the same. A prosecution in search of a crime. Every witness free to speak, except President Trump. It’s a tragedy what they’ve done to the judicial system. A tragedy. As AG, I plan to go after these guys. @WVGOP https://t.co/nv5M9yhpdC

From CNN:
New York Judge Juan Merchan has fined former President Donald Trump for repeatedly violating the gag order in the hush money trial.
Merchan ruled Trump violated the gag order nine times for criticizing expected trial witnesses in posts on social media and his campaign page.
Attacking witnesses is apparently okay with Stuart who then vows to “go after” members of the New York justice system. How so, Mike? Last month, Stuart threatened to investigate the Mingo County Deputy Sheriff Association because they withdrew their endorsement of him; now he threatens the New York prosecutor for daring to protect court employees and witnesses. Mike Stuart continues to demonstrate he has no respect for the rule of law.
Always the optimist, I’ve assumed that Morrisey’s replacement could not be any worse. If Stuart wins the primary and the general election, I will be wrong.
