Manchin giving money to Republicans!
From West Virginia’s independent senator:
"I will reward people who have worked across the aisle and passed legislation, engaged in bipartisan conversation and stood up to the extremes," @Sen_Joe Manchin writes, announcing a new direction for his PAC.https://t.co/cUbkpBX2XA

So Manchin will be giving money to Republicans who have worked across the aisle? That certainly will be a short list -- especially if he limits it to Republicans that he has recruited for a “bipartisan” vote. Maine’s Angus King will apparently be his first recipient. (King is an independent who caucuses with the Democrats – I think he votes more with the Democrats than Manchin does.) Joe also plans to donate to a Republican representative from Maine and one from Pennsylvania. Okay, what is he going to do with the rest of his PAC money?
In totally unrelated news, West Virginia University has updated its presidential search process:
WVU Board of Governors Vice-Chair and Presidential Search Committee Chair Dr. Patrice Harris shared a letter to members of the University community today, providing an update on the presidential search process.

If you read the letter, you'll notice a couple of WV politicians on the search committee and a member who is married to one (Charles Capito). Additionally, there’s this, earlier today, from WVU’s student paper:
Sen. Joe Manchin announced $6.4 million from the Department of Transportation to update WVU’s PRT system.

The funding will update all PRT stations currently operating on campus. https://t.co/mWWE3ouvNs
Consequently, I’ve installed Joe Manchin as the morning line favorite in the WVU presidential sweepstakes.
