Attack Obama, praise Trump
Senator Joe continues to look more and more like a (very) conservative Republican
West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin was interviewed on Fox News this morning. As he has been doing for the past three months, he praised Trump and criticized Obama. Watch it here.
Yesterday, Axios documented in detail Manchin's increasingly cozy relationship with Breitbart News:
Democrat Joe Manchin gets in with Breitbart
And here's the Washington Post earlier today describing the senator's Breitbart News meeting and then describing his unfriendly interaction with some of his constituents (see two posts down).
But Manchin has taken a harder line with progressive activists, accusing them of demanding a town hall just to cause a scene. During a call with constituent activists such as Carey Jo Grace of the Healthy Kids and Families Coalition, who was filming and uploading to Facebook, Manchin at first tried to find areas of agreement with protesters. He called Republicans’ refusal to hold a hearing on Obama Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland horrible.
But he blew up when an activist criticized his vote for new Environmental Protection Agency Director Scott Pruitt.
“I believe basically what Barack Obama did to our state was a crime,” said Manchin, referring to the Obama administration’s environmental regulations. “You’re not going to change me on that.”
Manchin's become the go-to Democratic guy for conservative news outlets: Breitbart, Fox, and Newsmax, and he never misses a chance to knock Obama and vote like a Republican. (Defending coal is one thing but how do you defend Jeff Sessions' record? Are you kidding me? Is there that kind of widespread support for Sessions in West Virginia?)
The comments section on the mostly-Democratic website Daily Kos has debated his worth to the Democratic Party a couple of times in the last couple of weeks. For instance, see here or here or here.
