An open question for the Wheeling Intelligencer: What is the limit -- what does Donald Trump need to do or say before you will criticize him?
Quite to the contrary, today’s Wheeling Intelligencer editorial page demonstrates its support for his antisemitism
My previous post pointed to the racism and antisemitism that some of the leaders of the WV Republican Party have not-too-subtly embraced. Today, the Wheeling Intelligencer’s editorial page endorsed the antisemitism part by publishing this editorial cartoon by Gary Varvel:

For those unfamiliar with the George Soros, antisemitic dog whistle regularly employed by the far right, MSNBC Mehdi Hassan recently did an excellent job explaining and debunking the rightwing claim that “rich and powerful Jews are working behind the scenes to shape global events”:
"What possible objection could [Trump/Fox/GOP] possibly have to this Jewish billionaire Holocaust survivor?"

On today's @MehdiHasanShow I debunked the new (and very antisemitic + dangerous) myth on the right that Alvin Bragg is a 'Soros DA'. He isn't.pic.twitter.com/Bx3aEm9fAU
And it’s not that the Intelligencer is unaware of this Republican/Trump Party strategy. Here is a fact check the Associated Press published two days ago:
Republicans invoke Soros to steer narrative on Trump probe
From that article:
The 92-year-old billionaire investor and philanthropist — who has been falsely accused of everything from hiring violent rioters to committing election crimes — doesn’t know and didn’t donate directly to the New York prosecutor steering the probe. But that hasn’t stopped Trump and other high-profile Republicans from accusing Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who convened the grand jury investigating Trump, of acting on Soros’ behalf. . . .
Scapegoating Soros, who is Hungarian American and Jewish, also perpetuates deep-rooted false ideas about Jewish people and immigrants to underscore the conspiracy theory that he is a shadowy villain orchestrating world events.
Despite the AP report, the Intelligencer published the cartoon, anyway.
Trump doubles down
From reporter, Helen Kennedy:
How trump has referred to Manhattan DA Bragg in the last three days
— Helen Kennedy 🌻 (@HelenKennedy) March 24, 2023
• “a degenerate psychopath that truley (sic) hates the USA”
• “HUMAN SCUM”
• “doing the work of Anarchists and the Devil”
• “a danger to our Country”
• “A SOROS BACKED ANIMAL”
• “RACIST”

(I found the picture that Trump used to be more appalling than his words.)
In recent months, I have been glad to see our local Ogden editorial page occasionally distance itself from some of the excesses of WV’s Republican legislature. It’s too bad, however, that they can’t criticize Donald Trump’s antisemitism and racism or his continued support from important members of West Virginia’s Republican Party (see previous post). Again, what does Trump have to do before Ogden will criticize him?
