A state of emergency exists in West Virginia, but it apparently doesn’t apply to Bob Evans (3/18 update - as of midnight, it does)
It’s no wonder that President Trump praised West Virginia’s “Big Jim” at today’s press briefing
President Trump today
From Trump’s coronavirus press briefing earlier this afternoon:
President Trump praised West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice as his state remains the only one without a coronavirus case during the Tuesday press briefing on the outbreak.
The president made the remark in response to being asked about whether the federal government is considering building additional medical facilities to help the medical care system.
"We are looking at different sites and a few different locations," Trump said. "We're not going need them in West Virginia, where so far, I guess, they have none. Still none? Still none. Alright, West Virginia. Big Jim, the governor, he must be doing a good job."
Governor Justice yesterday
As reported by MetroNews:
As neighboring states to West Virginia shut down nearly all businesses from restaurants to clothing stores due to the COVID-19 outbreak pandemic, the Mountain State remains open for business.
Gov. Jim Justice said during a press briefing on Monday afternoon that it’s not the time, yet, to close things such as restaurants around the state.
This comes after he declared a state of emergency for all 55 counties in the state during that brief and President Donald Trump’s administration said the public should avoid gatherings larger than 10 people.
“Go to the grocery stores. For crying out loud, go to the grocery stores. If you want to go to Bob Evans and eat, go to Bob Evans and eat,” he said.
But only if there are less than 10 people present?
Note -- WV Public Broadcasting reports that WV has only tested 84 of its 1.8 million residents.
The governor will address the state on the coronavirus at 6 PM tonight on West Virginia Public Broadcasting.
Update -- Justice closed all restaurants, bars, and casinos as of last midnight.
