A quick look at Sunday's Wheeling News-Register
On the front page
Biggest story by headline and picture-size is
Plans Made For The New Year
The sub-headline tells us:
Many Residents of the Ohio Valley are Making Resolutions for 2019
Really? This article looks like one of those local news satires found at The Onion.
Additionally, the front page tells us:
Delegate McGeehan Tapped as Chairman
The Hancock County Republican representative was chosen to chair the Veteran's Affairs and Homeland Security Committee. However, this happened on December 18. For Ogden papers, it's never too late to give some free publicity (including lots of quotes) to one of their favorites.
Finally, we learned that 2018's top local story was
305th Military Police Battalion Deploys to Cuba
which beat out the West Virginia teachers strike. (I was personally disappointed that the various personnel changes in Bethesda, Ohio (population 1,246) did not make the reader's top ten -- there were certainly enough top-of-the-front-page articles about the village throughout the year.)
In the "Opinion & Community" section
Highlights of the that section include an editorial cautioning us not to drink and drive, a column by Laura Hollis that is the same column that appeared in Friday's paper, and near life-size pictures accompanying an article titled
YMCA Offering New Swim Curriculum.
