$41.5 million for WV’s 2nd congressional district: Congressman Alex Mooney is “glad that this funding has been secured for health care centers”
While Mooney was quick to take credit for the funding, what he doesn’t tell us is that he voted against the coronavirus legislation that provided the money
Here was Mooney’s press release issued soon after the funds were released:
Congressman Alex X. Mooney (WV-02) today announced $41,596,186 in U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) grants to 12 health care centers in West Virginia’s Second Congressional District.
“I am glad that this funding has been secured for health care centers in West Virginia’s Second Congressional District. Our healthcare workers and medical centers are on the frontlines daily ensuring the well-being and health of West Virginians. As we continue to fight against COVID-19, these funds will assist these organizations in continuing to serve the medical needs of West Virginians,” said Congressman Alex X. Mooney.
Of course, as his fellow Republicans all did, Mooney voted against the coronavirus package. Yesterday’s Associated Press story about some of the hypocritical Republican representatives explained his defense:
“Despite what anyone claims, all money that is appropriated by Congress is derived from the taxpayer, not President Biden,” Mooney said. “Taxpayers deserve to know how their money is being spent, especially as it affects their towns and communities.”
Sorry Congressman, this doesn’t explain or excuse your press release. I also doubt that you’ll be the last Republican to do this.
