Joe Manchin in the news
West Virginia’s senior senator demonstrates who and what are important to him
Bipartisan Joe!
From CNN’s congressional reporter, Manu Ray:
Sen. Joe Manchin entertained a small group of senators on his houseboat this weekend -- and Sen. Lindsey Graham was in attendance, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
— Manu Raju . . .
Manchin's office declined to comment on the attendance on his boat.

Joseph Gouzd, Viatris union president, commenting on what he has heard from from his representatives: “We’ve heard nothing. We’ve heard all kinds of horse shit from A to Z.”
West Virginia’s senators are doing little, if anything, to prevent the closure of the Viatris Morgantown plant
With just a couple days left before the former Mylan plant in Morgantown closes for 1500 workers, news reports suggest that very little is being done to save the plant. Where are West Virginia’s senators? From In These Times reporter, Hamilton Nolan:
Ask Gouzd [president of the worker’s union] what he is hearing from his . . .

And here I thought they worked for West Virginians (with Friday update)
This story, from Britain's Channel 4 News, broke yesterday:

The Washington Post looks at how it came to be, and I look at how we are doing economically under it
How did it happen?
Earlier today, this article from the Washington Post caught my eye:
New piece! It's about Joe Manchin, WV's long realignment, and why he votes and acts the way he does and where the state is headed.
Lots of stuff on elections, coal, realignment, party building and more: https://t.co/YmRYLcaZWR . . .
What a surprise: McConnell tells Manchin and the Democrats that they can compromise all they want -- 'the For the People Act ain't gonna happen'
This after today's local Ogden papers gave up half of their front pages supporting Manchin's alternate plan
Both of today's Wheeling papers featured a front-page story on WV senator Joe Manchin's efforts to win Republican votes for the For the People Act. But, according to the Republican Minority Leader, Mitch McConnell, it's not going to happen. Here's the headline at Politico last hour:
GOP crushes Manchin's . . .

Bill Maher on Joe Manchin: "For a Democrat, he is the most powerful Republican in the Senate" (with 6/13 update)
Today’s Wheeling News-Register dedicates its editorial page to keeping in that way
Little did I know when I wrote yesterday’s post on our local papers’ love affair with West Virginia’s senior senator, Joe Manchin, that today's Wheeling News-Register would dedicate most of its weekend editorial page to even more praise. Here are the lowlights:
Pat Buchanan suggests that Manchin meets JFK’s criteria for . . .
