Child marriages in West Virginia
Our Republican legislature just voted to keep them legal
From the Associated Press, we learn that yesterday a West Virginia Senate committee rejected a bill that would have ended child marriages in West Virginia. From the article:
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — A bill that would have prohibited minors from getting married in West Virginia was defeated Wednesday night in a legislative committee.

The Office of West Virginia Secretary of State should be the least political of all state offices
Unfortunately for the state's citizenry, a highly-partisan politician, Mac Warner, occupies that office (with 3/8 update)
From the Associated Press:

“To run, or not to run. That is the question.”
Some thoughts on whether West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey will actually run for U.S. Senate
Last fall, WV’s AG Patrick Morrisey hinted that he would soon be announcing that he was running for U.S. Senate. Here’s the Fox News online’s headline for November 15, 2022:
'BIG NEWS COMING': West Virginia AG Morrisey hints at 2024 Senate run, points to likely 'new position in 2025'

Thank-you, Mr. Mayor, for saying this
The mayor of Wheeling, Glenn Elliott, comments on the practice of redlining:
I had many people reach out to me afterwards and say that they had never heard of this discriminatory housing practice that systematically denied loans, insurance, and other financial services in predominantly minority neighborhoods. (2/8)
